ASSP Chapter Meeting Info: ASSP Membership Benefits Beyond your Local Chapter Amanda Shin, MS, CSP ASSP Region I, Area Director Date: June 2nd, 2026 Regular Meeting: 11:30 am Ethos Academy, 4414 S Pacific Hwy, Phoenix, OR 97535
Description: Membership in the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) provides safety professionals with valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and grow throughout every stage of their careers. While local chapters offer meaningful networking, education, and community engagement opportunities, the value of ASSP membership extends even further through access to national practice specialties, leadership development, professional resources, mentorship, advocacy initiatives, industry standards, and conferences. This program will highlight the many ways members can maximize the full benefits of ASSP membership by leveraging both local and Society-wide opportunities to strengthen professional relationships, expand industry knowledge, and support continued career growth. Bio: Amanda Shin serves as ASSP Region I Area Director for Area 2 (Oregon/Northern California). A dedicated ASSP volunteer for over 14 years, she has held progressive leadership roles within the San Francisco Chapter, including Chapter President. At the regional level, she served two terms as Assistant Regional Vice President (ARVP) of Technology & Communication. Amanda is a Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Consultant with Salus Risk Management Consulting, LLC, bringing more than 18 years of experience supporting technology and biotechnology startups in highly regulated environments. She specializes in helping growing organizations develop practical, scalable EH&S programs, training initiatives, and safety management systems that enable compliance while supporting long-term business growth. She began her career at a biotechnology startup in North San Diego and expanded her expertise in the Bay Area through consulting, loss control, and safety roles in R&D and corporate settings, including at The Clorox Company. Her experience also includes leadership roles in battery and cannabis startups. Amanda’s areas of expertise include risk management, safety and loss prevention, hazardous waste management and permitting, ergonomics, environmental compliance, and workers’ compensation. Amanda is passionate about partnering with early-stage and scaling organizations to build strong safety cultures and EH&S foundations that evolve alongside the business. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Analysis & Design with a minor in Public Health from the University of California, Irvine, and an M.S. in Occupational Health & Safety from Columbia Southern University. In her free time, Amanda enjoys traveling the world with her husband and friends; her favorite destination so far is El Nido in the Philippines.
